Where NEC4 costs contractors money
A compensation event notified late and time-barred. An Accepted Programme that was never actually accepted, so there is nothing to assess against. Cost disallowed because the records the contract requires were not kept. NEC4 is unusually unforgiving about process, and most of what it takes away, it takes on procedure rather than on the merits.
What you will be able to do
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- read an unfamiliar ECC quickly, starting with the Z clauses and Contract Data
- run the early warning and compensation event machinery to time
- build quotations that recover disruption and time, not just the measured change
- administer payment under any main option, including a share calculation
What it covers
- How an NEC4 contract is assembled — core clauses, Contract Data, the Scope, and the Z clauses that change it
- Main Options A to F in detail, including the target contract share mechanism
- Time: access dates, the Accepted Programme, float and time risk allowance, Key Dates and acceleration
- Compensation events across three sections — the twenty-one events, the procedure and time bars, and assessment
- Payment under every main option, Defined Cost, the Fee, and the clause 53 final amount
- Early warnings, quality and Defects, termination, and the W1, W2 and W3 dispute options

Common questions
Who is it for?
Anyone administering an NEC4 contract on a services package — commercial managers, quantity surveyors and project managers, on either side.
How long does it take?
There is no fixed length. It is 88 written lessons across 16 sections, and most people work through it over a few weeks alongside the job rather than in one sitting.
Is there a certificate, and does it count towards CPD?
No to both. This is training material, not a qualification, and it is not accredited by any awarding body. If you need a certificate for a professional requirement, this will not provide one.
How long do I keep access?
That depends how you buy. Bought outright, this course is yours permanently — one payment, no renewal, and revisions are included. On a subscription that covers it, you keep access for as long as the subscription runs, and access ends when you cancel.
